Over many years Guideposts has heard from thousands of carers across the UK that finding accurate and up to date local information can be really difficult. As a result thousands struggle on alone without the help and support that could make such a difference.
As a result Guideposts Dementia Information Service for Carers, DISC, was launched in 2006. A specialist website, Dementiaweb was first set in Oxfordshire and has become a huge success attracting tens of thousands of visitors. It is now the most used site in the county for carers, families and professionals to find what local services exist.
As a result of this success the Kent and Medway Partnership Trust commissioned Guideposts to establish Dementiaweb in the county.
Dementiaweb is a unique local resource, designed with feedback from carers about their needs for help and information.
Guideposts is now embarked upon a major expansion of its DISC service and the development of Dementiaweb. The aim is to develop sites in every county throughout England and Wales.
A new national site has now been launched, www.dementiaweb.org.uk and the first new look county site in Warwickshire www.dementiawebwarwickshire.org.uk has gone live.
