About Dementia Web
Dementia Web is an all-age dementia information resource for Oxfordshire. It aims to help people with dementia, their carers and health professionals find empowering information about dementia and the support and care services available to them in Oxfordshire.
Dementia Web is essentially a dementia web portal for Oxfordshire, providing summary information about dementia, local support services, available help and care options, giving details about how to access this support and help. It is a gateway to enable you to access the organisations, groups or specific individuals that can help you, as well as the wide and large amount of detailed information available on the Internet about all aspects of dementia and dementia care.
The Organisations Behind Dementia Web
The Dementia Web site has been funded and is managed by Guideposts, with support from the Big Lottery Fund.
With support from the Big Lottery Fund, Guideposts set up a Dementia Information Service for Carers (DISC) in the South-East of England. A key part of this was the development of an easily accessible website that would provide the information families, professionals and care homes need about caring for someone with dementia, and provide links to the main local organisations in each area. Guideposts commissioned Dementia Web in a joint collaborative effort with other members of the Oxfordshire Dementia Forum, as a first step in developing similar sites across the country.
The Oxfordshire Dementia Forum (ODF) is a local collaborative project involving people from a wide variety of backgrounds, including:
- The Alzheimer's Society
- Age Concern Oxfordshire
- The Clive Project
- Guideposts
- The Institute of Public Care, Oxford Brookes University
- Oxfordshire Mental Healthcare Trust
- SPECAL
- The independent sector
The ODF group was formed in 2001, in order to build on the resource of innovative dementia services already established in Oxfordshire. Meetings have been held at regular intervals ever since. As a result of these meetings, the idea of an interactive, all-age, dementia-specific website emerged as a useful project for the ODF to take forward: this has now been realised in the Dementia Web project.
Website Design and Content
This website was designed and implemented by The Buzzness, funded by Guideposts with support from the Big Lottery Fund. Content structure for Dementia Web is a collaborative effort of The Oxfordshire Dementia Forum and content detail is drawn from many sources, especially the Associate Organisations: The Alzheimer's Society, Dementia Information Service for Carers (DISC), Guideposts Trust, Age Concern Oxfordshire, SPECAL (Specialized Early Care for Alzheimer's) and The Clive Project. Information is extensively referenced from Associate Organisations' websites in numerous places, for which acknowledgment is made here. Dementia Web is maintained by Guideposts.
